Freedoms stars Kevin Anderson and Sloane Stephens were two of the biggest stories in the tennis world the week of October 22.
Anderson won that week’s Vienna Open, defeating US Open finalist Kei Nishikori in straight sets to win his second ATP tournament of 2018.
More importantly, the win clinches Kevin’s first career berth in November’s ATP Tour Finals in London! Now ranked World no. 6, Anderson becomes the first South African to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals since Wayne Ferreira 23 years ago.
Meanwhile, Freedoms teammate Sloane Stephens put an exclamation point on her 2018 season at the WTA Tour Finals in Singapore.
The 2018 French Open finalist and 2017 US Open Champion went undefeated in round-robin play, defeating Kiki Bertens, World no. 1 Angelique Kerber and 2018 US Open Champion Naomi Osaka en route to the semifinals. Sloane advanced the championship match with a hard-fought three set win over former Freedom Karolina Pliskova. Though Sloane’s valiant run ended against Elina Svitolina in another three set classic, she ends her WTA season on a high note, ranked no. 6 in the world!
Fittingly, Freedoms Owner Billie Jean King was on-hand along with Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert to present Sloane with the runner-up trophy in Singapore.
