The Main Draw was announced in Paris on Thursday afternoon for the 2019 French Open. Reigning 2018 World TeamTennis Female MVP Taylor Townsend will represent the Freedoms in the Women’s Singles Draw; this is her sixth straight appearance at Roland Garros. She will face Garbiñe Muguruza in the First Round early Sunday morning, in what will be their first career meeting.
Muguruza is a recent World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam Champion (2016 Roland Garros and 2017 Wimbledon). With a win over Muguruza, Townsend would advance to the second round for the second consecutive year and face either Johanna Larsson or Magdaléna Rybáriková.

Grigor Dimitrov, an eight-time ATP Tour winner, seven-time finalist and No. 1 Bulgarian, and Danielle Collins, the No. 4 American on the WTA Tour, who reached the semifinals in January’s Australian Open, will play for the Freedoms on July 21 in Las Vegas! The match will be nationally television on CBS beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Dimitrov will face Serbian Janko Tipsarević in the first round at Roland Garros on Sunday morning. They last met in Melbourne earlier this year at the Australian Open, where Dimitrov defeated Tipsarević.
Collins looks to build upon her recent Grand Slam success. She squares off against Tatjana Maria on Monday at Roland Garros. The two have gone head-to-head twice in their careers, Collins has been victorious in both meetings. A win against Maria would likely set up a second round match-up with No. 8 seed Ashleigh Barty.
Freedoms Doubles specialists Raquel Atawo and Fabrice Martin will look to make deep runs at Roland Garros when the Doubles Draws are announced later next week. Both Atawo and Martin have had success leading into the French as both reached semifinals in tournaments this week; Atawo at the Nuremberg Cup and Martin at the Geneva Open.
