Craig Kardon has been the coach of the Freedoms for 12 seasons (2004-2010, 2016-2020) and was named the WTT Coach of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. Kardon has coached teams that won WTT Championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 plus the Freedoms’ title in 2006. In addition to coaching the Freedoms, Kardon has coached some of the top WTA players including CoCo Vandeweghe, Ana Ivanovic, Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport and Lisa Raymond. We recently sat down with Coach Kardon to ask him a few non-tennis questions.
Q: If you could enter the court to any song, what would it be?
Craig: Sound of Silence
Q: What are some of your favorite songs/singers?
Craig: Tom Petty. I like Nirvana. I’m kind of across the board. Wallflowers, Bob Seger, old school.
Q: What is your favorite sports themed movie?
Craig: Draft Day. I love Draft Day.
Q: Who would your dream non-sports doubles partner be?
Craig: Wow. Johnny Versace, because I would look good.
Q: Who is your celebrity look-a-like?
Craig: People have told me Mel Gibson, but I don’t know.
